Balloon Safari

The Ultimate Bird’s-Eye View: Serengeti Balloon Safari

A hot air balloon safari over the Serengeti is the most majestic way to experience the vastness of the African savanna. As the sun begins to peek over the horizon, you will gently lift off into the cool morning air, leaving the world behind. From this silent, elevated perspective, the “endless plains” truly live up to their name. You will glide over the winding rivers where hippos wallow and drift across the golden grasslands where lions prowl and leopards hide in the acacia branches. It is a peaceful, floating journey that offers a scale of the landscape that simply cannot be captured from the ground.

The Magic of the Great Migration from Above

The true magic of a balloon safari is the front-row seat it provides to the Great Migration. Depending on the season, you may find yourself floating over a sea of hundreds of thousands of wildebeests and zebras as they thunder across the plains. The silence of the balloon allows you to observe natural wildlife behavior without the intrusion of an engine, offering incredible opportunities for aerial photography. After an hour of soaring through the skies, your adventure concludes with a traditional champagne bush breakfast—a celebration of your flight set in the heart of the wild, surrounded by the sights and sounds of the Serengeti.

Important to Know: Activity Details

To ensure you are ready for this once-in-a-lifetime aerial adventure, please keep these essential details in mind:

  • The Early Start: Pick-up from your camp is typically between 4:00 AM and 5:00 AM to ensure you are at the launch site before sunrise.

  • What to Wear: Dress in warm layers (it can be chilly before take-off), wear a hat to protect from the burner’s heat, and bring a camera with a secure strap.

  • Duration: The flight itself lasts approximately 1 hour, followed by a bush breakfast and a scenic drive back to your lodge.

  • Booking in Advance: Due to high demand and limited capacity per balloon, we strongly recommend booking this activity at least 2 to 3 months in advance.

  • Age & Fitness: Suitable for ages 7 and up; passengers must be able to climb into the basket and stand for the duration of the flight.
