Gombe National Park

Southern Circuit

Overview

Gombe National Park, located along the shores of Lake Tanganyika in western Tanzania, is one of Africa’s smallest yet most famous national parks. Renowned worldwide as the place where Dr. Jane Goodall began her groundbreaking chimpanzee research in 1960, Gombe offers an intimate connection with nature and wildlife unlike anywhere else. The park’s steep valleys, lush forests, and sparkling lake create a stunning backdrop for observing chimpanzees in their natural habitat. Visitors can also spot olive baboons, red-tailed and colobus monkeys, as well as over 200 bird species. Accessible mainly by boat from Kigoma, Gombe is a destination for travelers seeking both adventure and inspiration.
