daily safari itinerary

Day 1

TARANGIRE NATIONAL PARK

Leaving Arusha in the morning, then drive to Tarangire takes about two hours, passing through scenic Maasai villages and open plains. Tarangire is famous for its massive elephant herds and ancient baobab trees, creating a striking contrast against the savannah.

Wildlife viewing is excellent, with lions, leopards, and cheetahs frequently seen. The Tarangire River becomes a magnet for wildlife, especially in the dry season, attracting buffalos, wildebeests, zebras, giraffes, and antelopes. Over 550 bird species can be spotted, including colorful lovebirds and large raptors.

After a full day of game drives, leaving the park in the late afternoon, the journey continues to Karatu, a small town near Ngorongoro, where a comfortable lodge or tented camp awaits for an overnight stay

NGORONGOR CRATER

An early morning departure allows for the best wildlife sightings in Ngorongoro Crater  A UNESCO World Heritage Site and home to an extraordinary concentration of wildlife. Descending into the 600 meter deep caldera, the grasslands stretch before you  teeming with animals.

This is one of the best places in Africa to see the Big four lion,  elephant, buffalo, and the rare black rhino. Hippos bask in the waters of Lake Magadi, and the crater’s enclosed ecosystem ensures year-round wildlife encounters, with cheetahs, hyenas, and jackals adding to the predator list.

A picnic lunch near a hippo pool provides a break before continuing the game drive. By afternoon, the ascent out of the crater offers breathtaking views, followed by a return to Karatu for a second night.

LAKE MANYARA NATIONAL

The final day starts with a short drive to Lake Manyara National Park, a gem along the Great Rift Valley escarpment. The park diverse landscape includes lush forests, open savannahs, and the vast Lake Manyara, which has expanded significantly in recent years.

Once famous for its flamingos, the deeper waters of the lake no longer support large flocks, though other water birds such as pelicans, storks, and cormorants can still be seen. Manyara remains an excellent destination for spotting tree-climbing lions, large elephant herds, and diverse primates, including baboons and blue monkeys in the dense jungle.

A final game drive leads to an afternoon departure, with the return journey to Arusha taking around two hours. The safari ends in the early evening, perfect for catching an evening flight or a relaxing overnight stay.

This three-day adventure balances diverse landscapes, exceptional wildlife, and a smooth, well-paced itinerary, ensuring an unforgettable experience in Tanzania’s northern safari circuit.
